Received this in the mail a few days ago. I was having trouble getting my two year old to draw lines on a piece of paper. We're not talking "hey sweetie, here's some chalk, have at it!" - we're talking can you draw a line from point "a" to point "b"? Maybe she is a bit young, not sure, but she just couldn't do the pencil/pen/crayon thing. I found this and thought we'd give it a try. BRILLIANT! Hands on and exactly what she needed to "see" what I was talking about. We use her finger to trace on the card and then we do it in the sand together and then I let her try it on her own. No saying, "that's not right" but letting her try and envision the card and the lines on it. She seems to do much better with just a few days try. Definitely glad I invested in this - the materials are all very sound and durable, I especially like the quality of the wood and the cards (laminated). Sand can be colored, which gives it more appeal for the younger ages. All in all, a great addition to our at-home montessori class room.
