Elenco Beetle Review

I bought this item for my son for his birthday. We had previously purchased a robot tractor, that is built and functions similar to this beetle, from Elenco that worked well, so I thought that this would be a great add-on to his robot collection.

We spent 3 hours putting it together. I have built several robots prior to this, so, while I may not be an "expert", I am certainly no "novice".

After following the instructions meticulously, we found that it would not work. The lights came on, but nothing else did. So, I spent another hour going over the instructions and re-checking our connections. We even replaced the batteries. But, it still didn't work.

I called the seller, and he said that it HAD to be the motherboard, so he sent us a new one. It still didn't work. Then they sent us a new remote. It still didn't work.

So, now, I have a $60 table decoration sitting on my disappointed, 9-year-old son's desk.

I suppose I could have returned it, but, crap...who wants to go through all that? I had already lost 5 hours of my time wasted on this product. i really didn't want to go through the hassle of calling the company, going through the explanation process about what happened (again), boxing it up, taking it to the UPS store, and shipping it back. I'm done.

Next time...I'll buy my robots from Walmart. If they don't work, at least I can just return it.
